RNCM Brass Band

London Overture - Philip Sparke

Lower end band build well on top of one another throughout, particularly trombs and basses. Band sound is controlled, and cornets have a bright sound throughout. Solo sections show off horn, cornet and euph, particularly cornet in this section, had a lush sound. Horn solo picks up back into the fast section, and the basses keep driving towards the end, and the band bring the band to a good close.

The Riot at the Rite - Simon Dobson

Nice baritone solo to start, which is passed around the band well. Horns rip through in the break into the main sort of riot moment, and the there is plenty of technique shown off here from the band. A constant drive from all of the sections, trombs and cornets particularly busy throughout all of this piece, and

Dark or Bright? - Louis Kroni arr Bertrand Moren (soprano soloist- Louis Kroni)

Impressive sound and technique shown off from our soloist, and we get plenty of contrast, basses and Euphs keep the pulse going throughout and really push forward. Horn sits well underneath the slower tempo to accompany well with the basses and soloists really pushes to the quietest dynamics throughout this. The piece picks up again into its faster section, and extreme technique and register is displayed here, well done.

We Seven - Derek Jenkins

Cornets, bari and flugel open this piece up nicely, and muted band underneath adds effect. Busy cornets create frantic energy and this picks up well. Bowed percussion adds ambience, and exposes the band in some places, but the band bring it to a respectful finish, with a good sense of balance throughout the piece, band wise and dynamically.

Tabi: The Journey - Théo Koita

Single muted parts around the band open with good sounds, horns and sop share counter themes well, and they it builds more and more. Bass solo moves us out of the slower section and the pace picks up a bit with tuned perc, and trombs come across well in this. It’s an interesting piece, and the band play it well.

Gold Saturday - Errollyn Wallen

The Bollywood style band ope well with repeating motifs and themes, and after a little while they’re eventually joined by the lower end of the band, and cornets later too do join in here for a short period. Soprano makes a fab job of a solo feature, and the band work well with the side band as well. The band play well this morning, and it’s a good start to the final day here.
